Hello & Welcome to Curves Carina!

I’m Sandy Small one of the owners together with my partner Shane Ridge.   We have been apart of Curves Carina for the past 10 years and are very passionate about women’s health & fitness.  We proudly network with many local business and support local community events & charities.

We are a ladies health & fitness centre where we provide a friendly, safe, supportive & non-threatening environment for women of all ages, fitness & health levels.   We also have a wonderful Mother & Daughter membership where you are able to workout in a friendly environment & enjoy some valuable time together.   Our Curves Complete program is the leading Curves weight loss success together with our Body Basic Circuits & you can have fun with our Curves Circuit with Zumba Fitness.

Being apart of Curves Carina was the best decision I ever made, it has also assisted in helping me change from a size 14 to a size 10, improved my thyroid and has helped with going through menopause.   As one of our lovely members recently said to us “I wish I had found Curves Carina earlier, this is a hidden little secret”.  Well the secret is out and we would love for you to be apart of it!

Together with our wonderful staff we would like to invite you into our club for a no obligation FREE tour & fitness assessment where one of our friendly staff will explain our programs.   Please feel free to contact us on 3843 3600 or book online directly from this site or ‘like’ our Curves Carindale/Carina facebook page so you can get all our club up-dates.

We look forward to seeing you at Curves Carina soon!

Don’t put of until tomorrow what you can do Today!

Letitia Campbell

When I joined up at Curves at the end of March 2014 and started the Curves Complete program, it challenged me to do 10,000 steps per day.
In order to do this I tried to find ways to fit these into my days. Parkrun is a free weekly timed event run by volunteers, one is held every Saturday at Minnippi parklands
In April 2014 I walked my first parkrun -  5 kilometres it took me 52 minutes
After losing weight, building up my strength and fitness I started to enjoy these parkruns, by December 2014 I could jog the entire 5 km and my time got down to 34 minutes
I decided to take on this new found enjoyment and for my birthday in August 2015 I went to Sydney to compete in the City to Surf – jalking as i call it (a combination walk / jog) from Hyde Park in Sydney to Bondi Beach, nearly 15 km
Without the commitment I made to complete the Curves program and the support I got from you all at Curves Carina I would never have imagined this would be something I would do.

I now try to complete at least 1 fun run a month, and although I still struggle some days to get those 10,000 steps, I can regularly be found late at night doing laps of my lounge room to get me over the mark.
In September 2013 we had a family holiday to Far North Queensland, and the Great Barrier Reef.
I got to stand and paddle in the water, while the kids went out and snorkelled in the reef, why you ask, I would not wear swimmers.
After I started at Curves and started to lose weight and tone up, I started to like the new me and the body I saw in the mirror.
We went up to Mooloolaba for Christmas in 2014 and after nearly 20 years and two kids later I rocked the new bikini body I had worked so hard to achieve.

“My Curves journey began about 7 years ago, when I joined with my Mum & Sister. After coming 1-2 times per week for a year I fell pregnant with my 3rd child, & decided to keep attending as long as my Dr allowed, which turned out to be 3 weeks before she was born. My improved fitness meant that my recovery was the best I had experienced & I returned to Curves after 8 weeks. However even with working out 3x/week, after 2 years I hadn’t lost all the “baby weight” & I was starting to feel less than fabulous in myself…

I had been treated for a Thyroid condition over 10 years before & was just diagnosed as a Coeliac so I had difficulty losing weight as well as a ‘poor me’ attitude to eating.  So when the Curves Complete Programme was introduced I decided that I would give it a go.  Even though we didn’t know that much about being Gluten Free, my Coach & I were committed to learn & adapt the recipes as I needed.  While on the programme I committed to working out 4 times per week & to walking up to 10000 steps each day.  My fitness improved and the kilos started to melt away.  I lost 8kgs in the first 12 weeks so 3 months later I went back for more…  By the 2nd time I felt so comfortable with the programme.  There were loads more Gluten Free options in the recipes, I was used to reaching my step goal and 4 workouts/week had become part of my life.  Another 5kgs went, and I felt so happy with my new size.  I was able to maintain my weight at 68-70kg for about 18 months when I started working more and exercising less.  I didn’t want to have to buy bigger clothes, but this time I knew what I had to do.

The support from my Curves Coaches has been invaluable. I have reached my goal weight & feel fit and strong.  People have noticed my weight loss at each stage, which just adds to the good feelings.  (Weight Loss: 12.3kg - Body Fat Loss: 5.8%)

Tanya Jurgensen - Curves Curvette of the Year Winner 2014

At the age of 26, I weighed 180 kilograms. My weight was literally ‘weighing’ me down and my future was bleak. Everything around me was grey...but now all I see is colour! 104 kilos lighter, my experience is a humbling yet true testament to personal commitment. My story has an ability to open each individual’s eyes to the personal journey of weight loss and how past tragedies can be your greatest triumphs. But I am more than just the weight. I am a woman that is dedicated, passionate and committed to making a difference and leaving a footprint on this earth that can be used to inspire others to take their step forward.

My most memorable achievement to date was winning the coveted International Weight Loss Competition 2013/14 Australian/New Zealand ‘Curvette of the Year’. Weighing in at 180kgs at my heaviest, I never allowed myself to dream let alone believe that I could ever triumph over my battle with my weight and win an international weight loss competition. When I stood on the scales and I officially lost that 100kgs just prior to winning this award, I was astounded by my response. I simply looked down at the scales, accepted the achievement quietly and kept moving forward.

I am all things at all times and remain fiercely dedicated to the way people think about their bodies. I am the future of my story from now.”

Weight loss: 105.2kg

‘I call it ‘My Time’ where I can just focus on Myself & my Health’

“Over Christmas, I was given a free Curves trial voucher by my friend.  Since I had never been to any gym before, it was a very new experience for me.  My friend made it a point of picking me up to ensure I was there exercising with her.  I had heard my daughter mention in the past how much she enjoyed going to the gym, so I thought why not give it a go.  Three months prior to me joining Curves I had been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.

I still remember my first day through those doors and the smiling faces of the instructors. They spent 5 weeks teaching me how to use each machine, which is crucial for someone like me who had never been to a gym before.  I felt there was support at all times, which was of utmost importance to me.  Gradually I started to meet other ladies and have made a huge circle of friends of all age groups.   We laugh and we joke and at the same time, we motivate each other in a positive way to really push ourselves.   The comfort of having to exercise with only women makes it more rewarding as you are not cautious of your body.

The smiling faces of Sandy and Shane are such an integral part of the Curves business.  Customer Service has always been very important to me, and seeing them and their team motivates me to want to attend the gym on a regular basis.  My current line of work job involves sitting behind a computer most of the day, the time that I spend at curves allows me to really spend time on me, I call it ‘my time’ where I can just focus on myself and my health.

Since joining Curves Carina I have had two blood tests and my Doctor is extremely happy with the results as my diabetes is under control.  The exercise along with diet has allowed me to take control of my life in a positive way.  I am looking forward to continuing my healthy journey with Curves well into the future.

Proudly Supporting Breast Cancer

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your valued support of our 2015 Breast Cancer Fundraiser, your support assisted us in raising $3,826.00 for Chicks in Pink and $520.00  for Cancer Council/Pink Ribbon this would not have been possible without your generosity.

We enjoyed a wonderful Saturday morning on the 24th October 2015 where our members, local community, family and friends came together and enjoyed a healthy breakfast, Raffles & Silent Auction raising money for Chicks in Pink.    We are very proud that our business, together with the support of our sponsors have raised over $73,640.00 over the past 9 years for breast cancer.

Raising money for breast cancer is something our business is very passionate about and we would not have been able to raise these much need funds for Chicks in Pink and Pink Ribbon without your generosity and support and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
